Politics

State of Illinois
Either Patrick Quinn, Lisa Madigan, or Dan Hynes will make the run for governor in 2010. The current incumbent will probably not be running for re-election.

Legislation: What we are seeing in Springfield is a battle between the mainstream conservative Democrats led by Speaker Madigan and a socialistic offshoot led by
Rod Blagojevich. The winner will dictate policy for the next few years. When the history books are written, the socialist will be treated as nothing more than a footnote.
Remaining issues to be worked out: gambling expansion.

Cook County
The fiscal crisis continues. The administration had been looking to balance the budget through tax increases rather than cutting expenditures. Now that it is becoming apparent that the support for tax increases does not exist, the County Board is starting to think about more job cuts.

Board of Review Commissioner Joseph Berrios easily prevailed in the democratic primary with over 60% of the vote.

Anita Alvarez defeated four other candidates to win the democratic primary for State's Attorney.
