The Honorable James M. Houlihan

Assessor of Cook County

 

Appointed to the office in March 1997 and elected to the office in 1998, 2002 and 2006. His interest in property taxation arises from his prior public service.

Houlihan represented a district on Chicago's north side lake-front in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1972-1978. He was appointed co-chairman of the House Governmental Organization Committee and served as vice-chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

A life-long resident of Cook County, Houlihan is a graduate of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary with a B.A. in Philosophy (1965) and and S.T.B. in Theology (1967). He currently resides on Chicago's north side with his wife Anne Tighe. They have two sons, Mike and Dan.
