• Cook County sues Country Club Hills
  Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas has filed suit to recover nearly $6.6 million in tax revenues that she says was paid in error to Country Club Hills, which allegedly has refused to return the money and even offered its residents a tax rebate. The south suburban city has acknowledged the error and offered to repay the money over five years, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday, but Pappas has demanded full payment.

  The Assessor has issued a report of his accomplishments during his first year in office.

• 2012 General Meeting
  The Cook County Assessor held an informational meeting on February 17, 2012. New forms and procedures were discussed.
• Tax Reactivation Program
  All industrial-commercial property owners in Bloom, Bremen, Calumet, Rich and Thornton townships should know about the possible tax advantages of participating in this program.
• 2011 State Multiplier
  The Illinois Department of Revenue has announced that the final 2011 state multiplier to be applied to Cook County tax bills is 2.9706. A substantial decrease from the 2010 state multiplier of 3.3000.
• 2012 Triennial Reassessment
  All real estate located within the City of Chicago is being reassessed during 2012.
• Digital Filing Project
  The Cook County Assessor has been building a digital filing system for assessment appeals. In September 2011, that system became partially operational and will be fully operational by late summer 2013.
• Cook County Governmental Debt
  According to Treasurer Pappas, Cook County governments owe $108 billion as of June 2011. That translates to $63,525 per household in Chicago and $32,901 per household in suburban Cook County. Treasurer Pappas addresses the Civic Federation, June 2011
